If you do not agree to the Terms, please do not use the Service.

We reserve the right to change these Terms at any time. You should check these Terms from time to time to ensure you are happy with any changes. Your continued use of the Service following the updating of the Terms shall mean you accept those changes.

About the service

The Service is a wireless data service using radio frequency to provide access on the passenger cars of the train to the internet. You will need to have your own equipment to access the Service. We grant you a revokable non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service in accordance with the Terms.

The Service is offered for free by us on a limited download, filtered basis. The limit of available download will be determined by Queensland Rail from time to time.

We only allow access to HTTP, HTTPS and email traffic and access to many websites is blocked by our filters. We attempt to filter content that contains adult or sexually explicit material, criminal activity, games, hacking, intolerance and hate, personals and dating, advertisements and pop-ups, alcohol and tobacco, chat, gambling, illegal drugs, intimate apparel and swimwear, peer to peer, phishing and fraud, proxies and translators.

We do not guarantee that any information, software or other material accessible via the Service is free of viruses, worms, Trojan horses or other harmful components.

Your responsibilities

You agree to:
  • comply with all applicable laws when using the Service;
  • not use the Service for commercial purposes;
  • not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party in connection with the use of the Service.
  • You must not use the Service for FTP, VPN and Peer to Peer traffic or to make high volume data transfers, host a web server or any other server, collect other people's personal data without their knowledge, interfere with other network users or for any defamatory or illegal purpose.
You will be sharing your trip with others so please consider the privacy, peace and personal space of your fellow passengers. Please make sure you behave in a way which does not disturb or cause offence to your fellow passengers.

While we try to ensure a safe environment on the Service, we cannot guarantee that our filters will successfully filter all offensive or illegal content. You are responsible for your own use of the Service and, for monitoring the use of the Service by any minors in your care, whether accompanied or unaccompanied.

Our Liability

We do not provide any guarantees in relation to the quality, stability, security or availability of the Service. You use the Service at your own risk. To the extent allowed by law we exclude all liability to you and third parties in relation to your acts or omissions on the Service or your inability to use the Service. We reserve the right to terminate your access to the Service at any time and to cease to provide the Service, in whole, or in part, for any reason.

Privacy

When you access the Service your device ID is recorded by the system to track your usage. This information is used to identify your device only.

When you use the Internet via the Service, all your Internet traffic and e-mail passes through our servers. The transmissions from your device via this service will be filtered as set out above in Your responsibilities. However, we do not monitor, read or examine that traffic at any time in such a way as to see any personal data unless we are required to do so by law.

We reserve the right to collect, collate and use any data or user information which results from use of the Service for internal use only by Queensland Rail and subject to the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).

Q. What is Wi-Fi?

A. Wi-Fi is a networking technology that uses radio frequency to allow you to connect to the internet when you are in a wireless hotspot location.

Q. How do I connect to Wi-Fi?

Queensland Rail provides free Wi-Fi to all Tilt Train customers. You can catch-up with the latest news, browse your favourite websites, check your email or get in touch with your friends and family.

How to connect:
To start using our free Wi-Fi service please follow these steps:

Step 1

Make sure that you are in a stable position within the carriage.

Step 2
Ensure your device is turned on and has its wireless signal/ switch activated.

Step 3
Go to the Available Wireless Network Connection List as displayed on your device.

Step 4
Navigate to 'Queensland Rail Travel Free Wi-Fi' from the list and then select 'connect'.

Step 5
Open your internet browser and you will be directed to the Queensland Rail Travel Free Wi-Fi landing page. If the landing page does not connect, please browse to a non-secure (https) website like www.queenslandrailtravel.com.au which will then direct you to the landing page. The Terms and Conditions of use will be displayed and must be accepted before you can use the Free Wi-Fi service. Please note that depending on the device you are using, the landing page may appear automatically.

Step 6
Once the terms and conditions are accepted, you will be taken to the free Wi-Fi launch page. You can then navigate away from this page and use your free Wi-Fi.
Should you exhaust your data allocation (1GB), you will be disconnected from the Wi-Fi network. The connection is reset every 12 hours (at 4am and 4pm).

Q. Are there any limitations I should know about?

To ensure that our free Wi-Fi service runs smoothly and fairly for all our customers, each customer has been allocated a limit of 1 gigabyte (GB) of data usage per session (reset every 12 hours at 4am and 4pm). There is limited bandwidth available from trains and this data limit gives each customer a fair share. We have also prevented access to websites that either requires large amounts of bandwidth or that contains material that could be deemed inappropriate.

Q. What happens once I use my data allocation?

Should you exhaust your 1GB data allocation, you will be notified. At that point, all internet access will be blocked. Your connection will be reset every 12 hours (at 4am and 4pm) and you will be able to again connect to the Wi-Fi network with another 1GB free data allocation.

Q. Why has my data allocation been exhausted so quickly?

The amount of data included in web sites varies greatly. Images that look small may be high resolution and consume large amounts of data. Some sites also transfer large amounts of data that is not visible to the user. Some devices have automatic updates to applications and automatic email download which could utilise the data. These features can be disabled via the device settings.

Q. How secure is this service?

Whilst every effort will be made to ensure that this service is secure, we recommend that you ensure that you have a robust and current anti-virus software and personal firewalls installed on your device before using the Queensland Rail Travel Free Wi-Fi service.

Q. Why can't I open certain web sites?

We have blocked websites that we consider offensive to protect you and other train travellers, including children. Some sites may be inadvertently blocked. If you consider that a site should not be blocked please submit a feedback form and we will review the site.

Q.I have found a site that should be blocked, can you block this?

Please submit a feedback form and we will review the site.

Q. My device can connect to "Queensland Rail Travel Free Wi-Fi" but I cannot browse the internet or the connection is slow.

The free Wi-Fi service uses a number of carriers to connect to the internet and we offer good coverage over most of the Queensland Rail Travel regional network.

Q. My work phone cannot connect to "Queensland Rail Travel Free Wi-Fi"

Businesses often use secure private connections for their phones for email and other communications. We have blocked these connections as they can be used to bypass the content filtering we have for user protection.

Q. Why is chat blocked?

Many common services will be available, however chat services that offer voice or video streaming can consume large amounts of bandwidth. We have blocked some of these to ensure everyone has fair access to the Wi-Fi service.

Q. iMessage does not work for me

iMessage text works, however iMessage video has been blocked due to the large amounts of bandwidth.

Q. Why are games blocked?

Many games and game downloads can consume large amounts of bandwidth and some games may contain unsuitable content. At this stage we are not able to selectively unblock suitable games only.

Q. Will this service be available on all long-distance trains?

Queensland Rail Travel is working to deliver Wi-Fi across all long-distance train services.

Q. Who do I contact for technical support issues?

If you are having difficulty connecting for the first time we suggest you first consult your device's manual or contact the device manufacturer for specific instructions. If you've followed the "How to connect" steps in this website in conjunction with the device's user manual and still can't connect, you can contact us for support:
