Luggage

Please take the time to review the following helpful tips when planning your journey with Queensland Rail Travel. To assist with the safe handling and storage of luggage on our services, luggage allowances apply depending on the train accommodation type booked.

All items accepted must meet the following weight and size restrictions:

  • Up to a maximum of 20 kg (44 pounds) per piece (see below for luggage allowance).
  • And not exceeding 180 linear centimetres in size (to calculate this, add length, width and depth of the item together).

Customers will be required to remove items from luggage to reduce the weight to no more than 20 kg, before it can be accepted onboard.

It is recommended that customers check in larger luggage items (20 kg maximum) that they are unable to carry easily themselves. Onboard staff will only be able to provide assistance with carrying small hand held luggage (7kg maximum).

Luggage Allowance

Checking In

At attended stations, ticket offices and luggage check in facilities open one (1) hour prior to the train's scheduled departure time and close thirty (30) minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. At unattended stations onboard staff will assist with checking luggage upon the train's arrival.
Prior to presenting luggage to staff for check in, customers need to present their printed ticket or the ticket from their mobile device. All luggage items should have identification tags attached by the customer to clearly identify the owner, including their name and phone contact number.
