​​Before you go​​​​​​ ​– Spirit of Queensland​​ RailBeds

We want everyone to travel safely and comfortably, so to get you ready for your upcoming RailBed journey aboard Spirit of Queensland, we have prepared a list of tips and things to consider as you pack and plan.

Luggage​​

Our RailBeds are spacious and comfortable, but there isn’t a lot of room for large luggage. We recommend you bring on board an overnight carry-on bag with yourtravel essentials, and check in larger bags.

Carry-on luggage​​​​

Your carry-on bag should be no more than 23cm wide x 34cm high x 48cm long to fit in the overhead compartment above your seat or on the floor in front of your seat. No items can be placed under the RailBed due to space limitations.

Checked luggage​​

Our luggage allowance includes two (2) 20kg items per RailBed customer.

Luggage check-in opens one (1) hour prior to departure. If you are joining at an unattended station our Onboard team will assist with your luggage upon arrival of the train. Your checked luggage will be available for collection at the end of the journey.

Overnight items​​

• Make sure to pack your travel essentials in your carry-on luggage.
• Bring medication you may need on the train with you in your carry-on luggage.
• A complimentary amenities pack is provided, but you may wish to pack any additional toiletries including necessary face, body and hair products, toothbrush and toothpaste.
• There are accessible shared toilet and shower facilities at the end of each carriage.
• Consider bringing loungewear, pyjamas and slip-on or waterproof footwear for moving to and from facilities during the night and early morning.
• If you are a light sleeper, you may want to bring some earplugs and an eye mask. Train travel brings varying levels of light, sound and movement as you pass through stations, towns and level crossings.

• the Onboard team will provide you with a clean bath towel
• body wash can be found in the shower.

Bed turndown​​

At night, with the evening service complete and onboard activities easing, our Onboard team will prepare your RailBed for overnight travel and convert your seat into a lie-flat bed with fresh sheets, fluffy pillows and a doona. When you are ready for your RailBed to be turned down, switch on the attention light above your seat and the team will come around to help you make the bed.

In the morning, the team will assist you again and transform your RailBed back into a seat before breakfast.

On the train​​

• The onboard Café has a selection of food, snacks and drinks available for sale throughout your journey.​
  
• The temperature on the train stays a consistent 22 degrees , which can feel cold compared with outside temperatures. You may wish to bring a light jacket or cardigan.
• We recommend wearing flat shoes on board for moving about, as you will experience some swaying and movement when the train travels through country at various speeds.
• When walking through the train, place your hand on the grab rail, seat back or wall to help steady yourself in case of sudden train movement.
• In the carriage, you’ll find a drink fountain with drinkable water where you can also fill smaller water bottles.
• Spirit of Queensland is a licenced venue and alcohol is not permitted to be brought on board. Beer and wine is available with your complimentary in-seat lunch and dinner and for purchase from the onboard Café during your journey.
• Mobile reception is limited on board due to the remote locations we travel through. Please expect that you will not be able to connect through your device to call, message or email for significant portions of the journey.
• Spirit of Queensland is not equipped with Wi-Fi service. Please prepare for your journey by downloading your favourite entertainment content to your device before you travel. Your RailBed also has a 240-volt power point and a USB point where you can charge your devices.
• Each RailBed is equipped with an in-seat on-demand entertainment system including a selection of movies, TV shows, podcasts and music to keep you entertained throughout your journey. A set of headphones is also provided for the entertainment system.
• You can also bring books, magazines, colouring in, sewing, games or cards to enjoy at your seat or in the onboard Café.
