COVID-19 requirements in Queensland

Masks are mandatory.

You must wear a mask when travelling on public transport in Queensland. Please wear a mask onboard our rail services and at our stations and Travel Centres.

Vaccination requirements apply aboard our trains.

Vaccination requirements for hospitality venues and workers due to Queensland government public health directives apply to Queensland Rail Travel services.

On long-distance services:

  • Customers on long-distance travel services are not required to be fully vaccinated unless they wish to dine in or relax in the café, restaurant, and lounge carriages.

  • All customers can continue to purchase food and drink onboard to take back to their seat or sleeper.

  • All customers 16 years and over are required to show proof of full vaccination to dine in or relax in the restaurant, café, and lounge carriages.

  • Our onboard team on each of our travel services is fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is just one way we are helping to keep you safe.

  • Customers travelling on the Spirit of the Outback in a Sleeper, who plan to dine in or relax in the Tuckerbox Restaurant or lounge areas are required to be fully vaccinated and show proof to an onboard team member.  For customers who are not fully vaccinated and travelling in a Sleeper on the Spirit of the Outback, a reduced fare is available. Take-away meals and refreshments are available to purchase and take back to your sleeper. Please note the menu options and the setting significantly change the customer experience when compared with the gourmet meals served in the Tuckerbox Restaurant.

On tourism services (Kuranda Scenic Railway and Gulflander):

  • All customers 16 years and over travelling aboard Kuranda Scenic Railway and Gulflander tourism services are required to be fully vaccinated.

  • Proof of vaccination is required to travel. Please show your proof of vaccination to access the station and board the train.

  • Our onboard team on each of our tourism services is fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This is just one way we are helping to keep you safe.

  • We are waiving cancellation and rebooking fees. If you have purchased a package through one of our partners, please check with them for their terms and conditions.

If you’re feeling unwell or you have been in a COVID-19 hotspot in the last 14 days, please follow Queensland Health advice.

For the latest information and advice on restrictions please visit the Queensland Health website.

Proof of Vaccination:

  • The easiest way to do this is to use the Check In Qld app, by linking your COVID-19 digital vaccination certificate to the app. Make sure you upgrade to the latest version of the app to show the green tick.

  • Alternatively, you can access your COVID-19 digital vaccination certificate through the Medicare app, from your Medicare-linked MyGov account, or My Health Record.

Provide a printed copy of your COVID-19 digital vaccination certificate, your immunisation history statement, or your international COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

For more information see How to get proof of COVID-19 vaccination.

Customer exemption from COVID-19 vaccination:

  • Persons who are exempted from getting a COVID-19 vaccination include those who have medical contraindications

  • A person who cannot be vaccinated must show an evidence of contraindication. This is a medical certificate stating that a person is exempted from getting a COVID-19 vaccination. This can be downloaded from the Australian Immunisation Register.

  • A legally qualified medical practitioner is required to complete the medical exemption form and record this on the Australian Immunisation Register.

  • A person that has evidence of a medical contraindication will be treated as if they are fully vaccinated and may be permitted to enter and remain in in restaurant, café and lounge carriages.
